PARC MEETING MINUTES AUGUST 5. 2014

 

Meeting called to order by President Maggie Sanders at 7:00 PM followed by pledge of allegiance to the Flag

Introduction of PARC Officers:  President, Maggie  Sanders; VP, Bill Cook; Treasurer,  Jimmy Turner

Welcome Guest:  Vince Diaz KG5DIV, David Lark KI4WSP and John Tuttle AB0PD

Minutes of July meeting read and approved with corrections. Motion to Approve: Mark KE5PPH, 2nd Marc WW5TX

Treasurer’s Report presented by Jimmy Turner.  Balance on hand as of August 5, 2014 was $2260.84.  Need to pick up $200.00 deposit from VFW. Motion to Approve:  Tex KC5EOM, 2nd Marc WW5TX

Call for report from Activities Committee, Bill Cook:  No report

Call for report from Antenna Committee:  No report

OLD BUSINESS

Conducted Special Election for office of club secretary.  Only candidate, Bob Nicholas, was elected  by the membership present and voting.

Bob Nicholas gave a brief report on the grand reopening of Houston Amateur Radio Supply after its relocation and merger with Lone Star Electronics.

A brief report was given on the Texas City Hamfest by Maggie Sanders

Concerning planned meeting and field trip to the PARC EOC, Maggie mentioned she was still trying to make arrangements with Rick Broussard.

A brief discussion was held concerning possible club activities.  Mentioned were a fox hunt, and a club QSO contest.  It was suggested that Miles be asked to do a fox hunt presentation to the membership at a monthly meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

Meeting Programs were discussed: October,  Bob Nicholas to show DVD on ARRL Centennial.  Christmas Party scheduled for December 2, 2014 at the Golden Corral in Pearland on 518.

Next meeting is September 2nd, the day after Labor Day.

Maggie mentioned that we should check with other clubs to determine if they have speakers on possible topics of interest to hams.

HAMS meeting to be held at the Pearland Library on Thursday August 7th at 7:00 PM was mentioned.

Information was received from Wayne Wright that the Devers repeater was back in service.  146.980 PL Tone 103.5

Stress/Distress:  Maggie reported that Harvey Mitchell K5YU, had been diagnosed with throat cancer.  Our prayers were requested.

Information was requested on the health and welfare of Barbara and Darin.

Meet & Eat to be at Celaya’s Mexican food restaurant on 518.

 

PROGRAM

Maggie Sanders made a presentation on Near Vertical Incident Skywaves and the types of antennas to conduct this type of radio transmission.  This was followed by a lively discussion.
